What is a walk-shop?
A walk-shop is an experiential method that places emphasis on embodied and multi-sensory knowledge and forms of knowledge production. It consists of a semi-guided walk within a predetermined area where participants make observations, which inspires a following workshop component during which participants share the walk experiences and new perspectives acquired through mapping, presentations and discussions. These semi-guided experiential walks integrate co-design and futuring elements that empower participants to envision their own nature-built environment relationships. in connection to different topics (e.g., green infrastructure, climate change). This method if flexible and can be adapted for various purposes and to address different audiences (e.g., practitioners, students, researchers, artists). This walk-shop method emerged in the context of a project aimed connecting communities to green infrastructure and its potential climate adaptations benefits, funded by the University of Twente’s Climate Centre. By grounding climate resilience in place-based knowledge and lived experience, walk-shops offer a participatory platform for shaping inclusive environments.
