Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November are Nature Work Day in the Netherlands. Organized by the provincial landscape organizations, this is a chance for anyone to help restore and maintain natural areas.
Certain species require pruning, plant bulbs need planting, willows require pollarding (removal of branches), and sustainable fenches of branches need braiding. You could build an insect hotel, clean out ponds, remove reeds, and plant trees. The website allows for both finding and signing up nature related activities. There are already 7 activities around Enschede, including building houses for hedgehogs. If you want to build your own hedgehog house, there more step by step and video instructions in Dutch.
