Sustainability day and week

While 10 October is our national sustainability day, this year it falls on a Saturday. The entire week after is Sustainability Week at the UT campus. Especially interesting is the plant cutting workshop on Wednesday the 14th, during which you can learn how to cut of small pieces of specific species to propagate new full grown plants of.

While there are less advertized activities around Enschede, the region of Zwolle has a spotlight event every year with famous speakers. This helps gain perspectives from not just academia, but also policy and practice.

Climate Center funding for digital twins of our UT Field Lab blue/green infrastructure

My colleague Yijian Zeng has prepared this slide to show what our digital twin project is about. We are funded by the Climate Center. We combine terrestrial sensors with radar results and modeling to determine blue/green roof performance. We have a BSc student on this too, and there will be a tangible result in the form of open data visible at the UT Field Lab, where you can see live data of current measurements, a summary of past performance, and notable highlights during extreme weather events.

National Greenery Day

Today is National Greenery Day, a day on which the collaboration on climate adaptation, vegetation and water is strenghtened. It intends to bring together different stakeholders: municipal, provincial, and water board employees, consultants, housing association members, researchers, and civil society members. It is an event in the middle of the country and has a whole day programme including excursions. Worth a visit if you want to learn more about the impacts and implementation of green infrastructure.
